Run details for the NFL’s top running backs as they look to fill out their contract extensions, as they seek to avoid being pushed out of the league by the salary cap.
The running backs who have signed extensions are a mix of first-round picks and first-year veterans, and they all appear to be seeking a raise or an extension worth more than $100 million.
NFL.com’s Albert Breer has the details.
The NFLPA, meanwhile, has been pushing for a salary cap increase since the 2015 season, which resulted in the league’s first-ever salary cap of $72.8 million.
The league’s salary cap was increased to $85.5 million this year, but teams still need to pay a $2 million cap charge to players who have a player option for 2018.
Players with an option can receive a guaranteed $500,000 pay increase over the first four years of their deal.
If the team can meet that cap increase, they can get a raise.
The cap charge could then go into the team’s cap.NFL.TV’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Raiders, Patriots, 49ers and Jaguars have all signed extensions worth more or less $100m.
