Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was in Indianapolis last week, where he was joined by several teammates and coaches who were working on a new system to change the way the team prepares and plays defense.
Luck said he is happy to see that process, but he also said he will take the time to analyze what worked and what didn’t last season and will continue to improve it.
“It’s all about the next step,” Luck said.
“What’s next, what we want to do next year, that’s all I can control.
We’re not going to sit here and say, ‘Oh, this is what we have to do.’
We’re going to go do what we think is right.”
Luck has been the most prolific passer of his career since he signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the Colts in 2013.
He has completed 62.3 percent of his passes, while ranking in the top-10 in passer rating with a 98.6 rating.
He’s averaged 6.3 yards per attempt with four touchdowns, three interceptions and five sacks in his past 11 starts.
The Colts are currently 2-1 and Luck is 1-4 since signing his new deal with the team.
He was the first quarterback off the bench for the team on Monday and has thrown for 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career.
“We’re always going to try to make sure we’re giving our guys the best opportunity,” Luck added.
“I’m very comfortable with the things that we’re doing.
But, it’s all a process.
It’s not a quick fix.
We want to continue to grow and continue to change things.”
The Colts will be looking to continue their progress after they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round.
The AFC South champion Texans have the best record in the AFC, while the Jaguars and Colts both lost.
“It was a huge disappointment to me to get out of there, especially having the playoff experience,” Luck explained.
“But I’m a football player.
I’m in it for the long haul.
I have to get back out there and help our team win.”
The Broncos were the last team to finish with a winning record in each of the past two seasons.
They’re 0-8 since the end of last season.
“If you look at our record over the last four games, we’re a different team than we were in that stretch of games,” offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt said.
The Broncos had four wins in a row from Week 10 to Week 15 before being beaten by the Colts last week.
Whisenhawk has the Broncos in the mix for the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoff race, which would mean he could be in position to select a starting quarterback.
The Texans have won two in a stretch of three games, and quarterback Brock Osweiler has thrown three touchdowns and no interceptions.
