Biden says that Trump is running on a “fiery, unshakeable conservative agenda” that is “unapologetically conservative.”
The former vice president says he wants Trump to focus on “a radical change in our immigration system.”
But Biden says Trump is unlikely to offer any specifics.
He says, “I don’t think he has much to offer on immigration in a way that will appeal to conservatives.”
Biden says he would like to hear from Trump on how he would address climate change, the issue that many conservatives view as the biggest threat to their future.
But Biden adds that Trump would be better served by listening to Republicans in Congress, who are pushing a broad plan to reduce emissions.
“I’m not asking him to come up with an entirely new plan,” Biden said, “but I’m sure he’d do well to listen.”
He says he’s been impressed by Trump’s ability to communicate with his base, even when he has criticized his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
He said he has met with Trump, his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Biden says, when asked if he will continue to attend the annual dinner, Trump responded: “I’ll be there for dinner.”
Biden is scheduled to give the keynote address at the Republican National Convention next week.
He is the only vice president to do so.
Biden also is scheduled for a debate next week with Trump.
Biden is running for re-election next year in a Democratic-leaning state.
